Dr. med. Urs Hefti is a Swiss orthopedic surgeon and trauma specialist based at Hirslanden AndreasKlinik Cham/Zug, and Bern, with over two decades of experience in musculoskeletal medicine, sports medicine, and trauma surgery.
He earned his medical degree from the Universities of Zürich and Fribourg and is board-certified in both surgery and orthopedics and traumatology (FMH). He also holds certifications in sports medicine, and an International Diploma in Mountain Medicine, reflecting his strong background in expedition and alpine health.
Dr. Hefti has held leading roles in several Swiss hospitals, including Kantonsspital Aarau, Spital Liestal, and Spital Langenthal, where he served as Chief of Orthopaedics and Traumatology. Since 2012, he has been Medical Director and CEO of the Swiss Sportclinic Bern and Orthopädisches Zentrum Münsingen He has also been a consulting surgeon at Hirslanden Cham and Bern since 2016 and a partner at Sportmedizin Cham.
His expertise includes joint surgery (hip, knee, ankle), sports trauma, joint prosthetics, and pediatric trauma, together with a deep understanding of sports and mountain medicine.
An accomplished mountaineer, he has participated in research expeditions to peaks such as Shisha Pangma and Muztagh Ata, and contributes to international mountain medicine organizations including the UIAA and SGGM.
He is the actual president of the Medical Commission oft he World Mountaineering Federation (UIAA).
